Park and gardens: You can stroll at your leisure in the woods and park that surround the house. And take a picnic for lunch or tea. Further afield: Château Chavagnac is the perfect base from which to explore the diverse treasures of this region. We are in the heart of Rhône wine country ideally placed for enjoying wine-tasting and visiting the vineyards and caves of St Joseph, Hermitage, Crozes Hermitages, Cotes du Rhône, St Peray, and other appellations. An abundant choice of walks. Several GR (Grande Randonnée) and other footpaths can be picked up within easy reach of Chavagnac. St Jean de Muzols is the nearest village, 3 kms away down the hill with boulangerie, post office, supermarket and other essentials. The attractive towns of Tournon and Tain, only 5 kilometres away, offer all the amenities you might need: excellent restaurants (all prices), delightful local shops and markets, the Valrhona chocolate factory and shop in Tain, wine shops and caves. There is also a Cinema and Theatre as well as a 15th century château and museum. Swimming and fishing in the River Doux (2 kms from Chavagnac). The Vivarais steam train running from Tournon to Lamastre and river cruises on the Rhône. 4 restaurants with Michelin stars within a half-hour drive of Chavagnac. Skiing (downhill and cross-country) is only 55 miles away in the Vercours National Park (about an 80 minute drive). Horse riding is available locally.
